About

An independent guide with a point of view

Beaconshofeedsafar is an editorial guide to hotels in Europe, written for couples and solo travellers who want to know where they will sleep, and why it matters.

We begin with the feeling of a place, then test it against location, character and value. We would rather tell you a hotel is not for you than pretend it is for everyone.

How we work

Each guide is compiled from property information, published reviews, maps and editorial research. We do not claim to have slept in every room we describe, and we say so where it matters. Hotel details change, so we encourage you to confirm rates, facilities and opening dates with the property before you book.

What independence means

No hotel pays to be included, and no hotel pays to be ranked. We do not let properties review or approve our copy. If we ever change that policy, we will say so clearly on this page.

What we look for

Location, character and value are the three filters. We also look at sleep quality, service and honesty about what a room is. A beautiful lobby with a poor bed does not pass.

Corrections

If you find an error, please tell us. We correct mistakes promptly and would rather be told than be wrong.
